Tessera · the sensor

A tile that sits outside and measures exactly what hits it

Tessera is how we measure hail — on the ground, at the place the loss happens. One device, one address, one measurement. Everything else we build starts with what it records.

The word, since you asked

A tessera is one tile in a mosaic

Tessera — plural tesserae — is the small cut tile a mosaic is assembled from. One tile is one fact: this color, this position, nothing more. Stand back far enough and the tiles become a picture, but the picture is only ever as honest as the tiles underneath it.

That is our whole architecture in one word. A Tessera sensor makes one small, hard, local measurement. Mosaic is what those measurements become when there are enough of them. We named the hardware after the tile rather than the picture on purpose: the picture is the impressive part, and the tile is the part that has to be true.

Wherever the asset is, that is where the instrument goes

A measurement taken somewhere else is an estimate about your site. The mount variants exist so that the instrument can stand on the thing being insured — the roof, the lot, or the array itself.

RoofPeel-and-stick to any roof. No penetrations, no wiring, no electrician. The reason a single-site deployment doesn’t need a scheduled crew.
PoleFor open ground — dealership and staging lots, fields, yards, anywhere the asset is the land rather than the building on it.
TrackerMounts to the torque tube of a utility-scale solar tracker, so the instrument moves with the array it is measuring for.

One tile is a reading. Enough tiles are a surface.

A single Tessera answers one question about one address. Years of their measurements train Hailios Fusion AI, which extends them to any US address, and together they answer three much larger ones — what the risk is, what the event was, and what is coming. That is Mosaic, and it is where the instruments stop being hardware and start being an answer.
